Psychomotor (Physiological) Changes In Depression
Research has shown that depression will result in physiological changes in the brain, for example, causing what is known as “psychomotor retardation (PMR),” with manifestations including slowed speech, decreased movement, and impaired cognitive function. The neurobiological process underlying the inhibition of activity includes functional deficits in the prefrontal cortex and abnormalities in the basal ganglia and dopaminergic pathways.
